Born into a lineage of Mexica and Native Indigenous traditions, Joaquin Izkaltonalli Cruz-Chavez (Kalto) was raised in a family where ceremony, dance, song, regalia-making, and community service were woven into everyday life. From an early age, these traditions were not taught as separate disciplines but experienced as interconnected ways of living, learning, and caring for community.

Guided by parents, teachers, elders, and cultural mentors, Kalto was immersed in the oral traditions, ceremonial arts, and cultural practices that have been carried across generations. From creating regalia and learning ceremonial songs to participating in dances, rites of passage, and community gatherings, each experience became part of a lifelong journey of cultural stewardship.

Today, that inheritance continues through a commitment to preserving and sharing living traditions with integrity.
